The Power of Vibration Therapy

Did you know that everything around you, including yourself, is sound? You are literally made up of cells, which are made of atoms. Those atoms are made of particles- which are just vibrating energy.

We all have our own unique vibration. There are even theories that each of your systems, including your organs, have their own frequencies. Disease can result as the outcome from a dissonance in those vibrations. One of the fundamental principles of vibration therapy according to Eileen Day McKusick, author of Tuning the Human Biofield, is that physical, emotional and mental symptoms can be a side effect of not being in resonance. In this way, vibration therapy can be a powerful tool. By changing the diseased energy field, the symptoms that emerged from the imbalance of energy can also change.

So what exactly is sound healing? Most simply stated, it is the process of using musical instruments as tools to produce vibration that can alter your body, including your brain waves. Some examples of specific instruments used in sound healing are tuning forks, crystal bowls, chimes, and gongs. Because the human body is made mostly of water and water is an excellent conductor of sound, vibrations travel through the body extremely well. These vibrations can release blockages, promoting deeper circulation and energy flow.

As mentioned above, vibration therapy seems to have an even greater impact on brain waves. Binaural beats, or when two different tones are played in each ear to combine and create a collective heard frequency, have been shown to induce the same mental state that meditation does- except almost instantaneously. Studies have shown that this can lead to reduced stress and anxiety, can slow down the rate of brain aging and memory loss, promote mental health, improve quality of sleep and lengthen attention span.

As a practitioner of Sound Therapy, I myself have experienced and seen the powerful effects of this modality. Sensations experienced during a sound healing session can vary. Some experiences include, but are not limited to: going into a deep meditative state, experiencing a sense of deep relaxation that may lead to restful healing sleep, wild visuals, emotional releases, changes in body temperature, and even parts of your body feeling like they are vibrating. Sometimes the sound can feel overwhelming, out of tune, or even jarring. This might be a sign that your body is out of balance and that the sound waves are working on bringing your body back into harmony. If this happens to you, I recommend focusing on taking deep breaths to relax. Sound medicine can be incredibly moving. I promise it will pass, and whatever is on the other side usually feels pleasant and even euphoric. And on the positive side: studies have shown that the benefits of using vibration therapy to help restore resonance and harmony to your body can be immense. They can range from pain relief, better sleep, improved mood and sense of well-being, lessened stress and anxiety, deepened states of relaxation, increased energy, and so much more.

Did you know that you can add sound therapy on to your acupuncture treatment in the clinic? If acupuncture isn’t your thing, you can even schedule a special session that solely utilizes vibration healing. Magic Moon Medicine also hosts a couple of sound baths every month so that our community can experience the unique and healing power of sound.
