Our Healthcare Model
Our philosophy of healthcare is based on the principle that health is innate, in other words, it comes from within. Our bodies are self- regulating and self healing. Dis-ease (lack of health or ease) is the result of interference to our inborn healing potential. When sources of interference such as infection, stress, trauma, toxicity etc. are removed, your body can express it’s full healing potential. We believe that since health comes from the inside-out, that you are ultimately responsible for and in charge of your health. Our mission is to remove any interference, and empower you to take control of your health.
Just like you, each of us here at Fidalgo Island Health Center is here for a reason. Get to know us and our stories, which will help you understand why we do what we do.
Dr. Jim Bentz, Health Coach and Educator, NIS Trainer for North America
I was lucky in growing up for so many reasons. I grew up in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the oldest of 9 kids. LaCrosse is a town of 50,000 in the Mississippi River Valley, and we grew up roaming the bluffs and river as kids. My parents were both very health conscious. Dad was a dentist who did amalgam removal and recommended whole food diets and supplements to his patients in the 50’s and 60’s. He gave me a copy of Weston Price’s “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” when I was a teen. That book made a huge impact on me and I still have and treasure it.
With 9 kids my mom was the “domestic engineer”. We rarely had processed food, and never had pop or candy. I remember Mom reading Adele Davis, Rachel Carson, and Euell Gibbons growing up. I graduated from the university of Wisconsin with a degree in Biology, and later decided I wanted to work in health care. I attended Palmer College College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa, graduating in 1984. I began practice in Bellevue, WA. in 1985, and moved to Anacortes in 1997. My wife Candice and I feel very blessed to live in such a special place.
I’ve always loved learning, and am still passionate about studying health and the amazing human brain and body. It’s an honor to work with all our amazing patients, and experiencing the transformations in their health with them. I also have the privilege of teaching NIS to other practitioners in North America and beyond, and one of my life goals is to change the way healthcare is delivered in the United States.
Hello and welcome to Fidalgo Island Health Center. I’m Wendy Saver and I joined the team here in October 2013. I have an extensive (15 plus years) administrative medical background working at a major hospital in Boston starting in early 70’s. From there my husband and I opened up three very successful family style restaurants over a 20 year period. I strongly believe that working at the hospital and the restaurant prepped me for any type of hospitality work.
In 2011 the timing was right for a change and we downsized our lives, drove across the United States from one camp site to another. Our destination was Guemes Island and that is where we landed three weeks later. Timing is everything and when a position opened up in this office I was fortunate to be offered the job.
Working closely with the patients has been such a rewarding aspect of this job. Going the extra “mile” for someone to try to accommodate their needs is very important to me. I like to consider my role here as someone who strives to make everyone feel comfortable and cared for from that first connection between patients and the office. It goes without saying that I am blessed to be working with amazing people and feel that the support and caring overflows into the care of our patients. I look forward to meeting you and helping you in any way that I can to get you to the next level of your physical and mental well being. We are here for you
Hi, my name is Maddie Knutson. I have been in the medical field for 12 years now. Being a lifelong resident of Anacortes, naturally, I have a love for hiking, the beach, and all things outdoors. Having gone through my own personal health journey and becoming one of Dr. Bentz’s patients, I know first hand what it’s like to have gone through it all. Now as the Medical Assistant at Fidalgo Island Health Center I am happy and eager to attend to all your patient care needs. I will be working with you personally from your first appointment and medical intake, and will be your point of contact with any questions you may have. Everyday Dr. Bentz has something new to share with us and in turn we have more to offer our patients in their care and health journey– Always striving for the best and continually learning.
Here’s to you and your health, we look forward to seeing you in the office!
